This one‑day course fulfills Mississippi’s statutory requirements for the instructor certified endorsement (also referred to in practice as the “enhanced carry permit” endorsement) under Rule 31‑1‑15.1 of the Mississippi Administrative Code and Mississippi Code § 97‑37‑7.

Offered at Big River Ballistics, the course combines classroom instruction and live‑fire performance to ensure participants not only understand the laws but also demonstrate practical firearms competence. Big River Ballistics is a purpose‑built training facility with modern classroom space, safe indoor/outdoor range options including covered firing lines, and experienced staff dedicated to high standards of safety and instruction. 

What You Will Learn:

• Federal and Mississippi firearms laws relevant to concealed carry, including MS Code § 45‑9‑101 and § 97‑3‑15, justifiable homicide, duty to retreat, and permitted / prohibited locations. 

• Principles of safe gun handling, storage, and maintenance.

• Fundamentals of marksmanship: stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control.

• Drawing, presentation, and concealment techniques.

• Home defense considerations and safe use‑of‑force decision making.

• Equipment selection (firearm, holster, ammunition).

• Practical shooting scenarios and drills on the live range.

Course Structure:

• Classroom (4 hours): Legal instruction; safety theory; firearms fundamentals; equipment; home defense philosophy; written test to confirm comprehension.

• Range (4 hours): Live‑fire drills demonstrating proficiency, a shooting qualification test to confirm safe and effective firearms use under supervised conditions..

What to Bring:

• Firearm: You are required to bring your own firearm for the range portion of the course. If you do not have a firearm, rentals are available upon request. Please notify us ahead of time if you need to rent a firearm.

• Ammunition: A minimum of 50 rounds of factory-loaded ammunition. If you’re using a rental gun, we have ammo in the pro shop for sale. 

• Holster: A sturdy, well-fitting holster (inside or outside the waistband, no shoulder holsters).

• Eye and Ear Protection: Safety glasses and hearing protection are mandatory on the range. If you do not have them, they will be provided.

• Notepad and Pen: For taking notes during the classroom portion and for the written test.

• Comfortable Clothing: Dress appropriately for both classroom and range training. Long sleeves, pants, and closed-toed shoes are recommended.

• Sack Lunch: We will have a short break for lunch while you take your test.  We have refriderators and microwaves in the classroom. 

• Creature Comforts: Bug spray, sunscreen, and anything else you made need for comfort on the range.

• Individuals seeking the Mississippi enhanced endorsement on their concealed carry permit (sometimes called the “instructor certified” endorsement), in order to carry in additional locations as permitted by law.

• Anyone wanting a deeper level of training: both legal knowledge and range skills.

• Must be legally eligible to own/possess a firearm under state and federal law.

Outcome / Certification:

Upon successful completion of both classroom and range portions—including passing the written test and the live‑fire shooting qualification—you will receive a certificate recognized by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.
